[Day 6] Holi

Today was finally Holi, something I’d quite been looking forward to. It’s a festival to celebrate the arrival of spring and it’s basically a nationwide party.

In the morning I helped Akanksha a bit with cooking, so that we would only need to heat up the food after the festivities. Once all the cooking was done, we put on our Holi-clothes and headed to the roof, where we were going to celebrate with the neighbors.

The Holi celebration itself consist of throwing colored powder, as well as water, on one another. Apparently, in some regions, such as the Pahar Ganj district which I fled from earlier, people also throw eggs and even cow dung in each other’s face. We kept things hygienic and civil :).

After we ran out of powder, there was some dancing and then we had appetizers. In the meantime the neighbors had driven to a neighboring state where it is legal to sell alcohol on Holi, so we could also enjoy some beers. Finally, after we downed all those while playing games, we had a great dinner.
